Created in 1973, the Prix de Lausanne is an international competition for young dancers aged 15 to 18. One of a kind, its prime objective is to discover, promote, and support talents among the world’s finest young dancers.
About 60 of the world’s leading dancing companies and schools are partners and support the Prix de Lausanne, and many of today’s leading professional dancers are prizewinners of the Prix de Lausanne, such as: Carlos
Acosta, Alina Cojocaru, Steven McRae who are Principals at The Royal Ballet in London; Laetitia Pujol who is Etoile at the Opéra de Paris; Julie Cox Kent, Gillian Murphy, Marcelo Gomes who are Principals at the American Ballet Theatre in New York; Michel Gascard who is the Director of Rudra Béjart Lausanne; Bernice Coppieters who is Etoile at the Ballets de Monte Carlo.

At the end of October, 80 candidates from nineteen countries were selected by DVD (from 226 applicants from thirty countries) to come to compete in Lausanne from January 29 th to February 4th, 2012. During the week of the competition they will be coached by internationally reputed ballet stars like Monique Loudières, Etoile of the Opéra de Paris and Patrick Armand, Etoile, presently Principal of the San Francisco Trainee Program in the USA.
The competition will end Saturday February 4th with a final performance where the prizewinners will receive direct scholarships to the world’s prime dance teaching institutions and companies. The Prix de Lausanne also provides a formidable platform for the professional dancing world to observe,
discover, and connect with young dancing talents, making Lausanne the world’s capital for young dancers during the competition.

The 40th edition of the Prix de Lausanne 2012 will be held from January 29th to February 4th, 2012, at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in Lausanne.

• Lecture demonstration: Tuesday January 31st, 2012, 5.00 p.m. to 6.15 p.m., free of charge.
• Selections: Tuesday January 31 st, from 9.15 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., contemporary classes
• Selections: Wednesday, February 1st, from 8.15 a.m. to 2.45 p.m., classical classes
• Selections: Thursday, February 2nd, from 9.15 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., coaching of classical variations
• Selections: Friday, February 3rd, classical and contemporary variations in front of jury (15-16-year-olds , 9.45
a.m. to 12.45 p.m., 17-18-year-olds, 13.45 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.)
• Finals: Saturday, February 4th, 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (20 finalists: classical and contemporary variations in
front of jury), “Interlude Performances” by the London Royal Ballet and Danish Royal ballet schools.
• Gala: Sunday, February 5th, at 5.00 p.m.
